The goal is observable success. If the generated app does not match the behavior, you know what to ask for next.
Give The Agent The World It Needs
AI tools are good at filling gaps, but every gap is also a place where they can make something up. If you already have files, tell the agent which files matter. If there is an existing style, say so. If a function already exists, ask it to use that instead of inventing a parallel one.
Useful context can be plain:
- "This should be plain HTML, CSS, and JavaScript."
- "This is a React component for an existing Vite app."
- "Do not install new packages."
- "Keep the code understandable enough that a beginner can read it."
That last line matters. It is fair to ask for code you can learn from.
If the result is clever but unreadable, ask for a simpler version. If the agent adds ten abstractions to solve a three-button problem, ask it to reduce the design. If it introduces a dependency you do not understand, ask why it is needed.

Run It Before You Believe It
This is the part people skip because the generated result looks finished. Run the thing.

Break It Like A User

This is how you avoid endless churn. You are making the bug reproducible and protecting the parts that already work.

You can one-shot it, play with it, share it, learn from it, and keep improving if people like it. If it breaks, the failure is usually disappointment. That still matters, but it is not the same category as losing someone else's data.
The moment you add users, money, identity, uploads, chat, saved state, email, private records, analytics, or anything that affects another person's real life, the project changes categories. If you are handling user data, you have to treat that with the utmost seriousness.
At that point, vibe coding cannot stay in "looks good, ship it" mode. You need stricter review. You need server-side validation. You need to understand where data is stored, who can read it, who can delete it, and what happens when something fails.
Profit changes the responsibility too. A free toy can be rough in a way a paid tool cannot. Once someone gives you money, you owe them clearer expectations, better recovery paths, and more care around support, availability, and failure.
This is not meant to scare people away from building. It is meant to make the category honest. A tiny game, a personal experiment, a public prototype, a paid product, and a user-data system should not all use the same verification bar.

Here is the shape I recommend for your first real session: pick one artifact, write a one-paragraph brief, add five acceptance criteria, add three constraints, ask for the smallest version, run it, break it, fix one issue at a time, and ask the agent to explain the important code path.
For example:
Build a tiny browser-only focus timer. It should let me choose 5, 15, or 25 minutes, start and pause the timer, reset it, and show a clear completed state when time runs out. Store no data. Use no backend. Use no external services. It is done when the timer works after refresh and the layout works on a phone.
That is enough. Really.
From there, you can grow the project responsibly. Each new feature gets the same treatment: describe it, constrain it, run it, break it, explain it.
This is not slower than pretending. Pretending only feels fast until the first bug arrives and nobody knows what the system was supposed to do.
